Q. 3. b) In two stage steam turbine working on ideal Rankine cycle, steam enters the first stage at 90 bar & 550°C temperature. Second stage entry temperature after    reheating is 550°C. Steam is never wet during expansion in both sides. Find the cycle efficiency and specific steam consumption. Also find the steam flow rate in the turbine in kg/sec if the turbine is directly connected to an alternator of 150 MW output. Assume 0.9 as alternator efficiency. Draw T-S diagram for the cycle. Neglect pumps work.  [6 marks]

Q. 4. b) In a reheat cycle, steam at 500°C expands in a HP turbine till it is saturated vapor. It is reheated at constant pressure to 400°C and then expands in a LP turbine to 40°C. If the maximum moisture content at turbine exhaust is limited to 15%,
            Determine:
            i) Reheat pressure
            ii) Boiler pressure
            iii) Cycle efficiency
            iv) Steam rate.  [6 marks]

Q. 3. a) What are the good requirements of coal handling plant? [4 marks]
Q. 3. b) Steam at a pressure of 15 bar and 250°C is expanded through a turbine at first to a pressure of 4 bar. It is then reheated at constant pressure to the initial temperature of 250°C and is finally expanded to 0.1 bar. Draw the T-S diagram and estimate the work done per kg of steam flowing through the turbine and amount of heat supplied during the process of reheat. Compare the work output when the expansion is direct from 15 bar to 0.1 bar without any reheat. Assume all expansion processes to be isentropic. [6 marks]
