Tentative Endsem Exam Pattern

Unit 1: Introduction and Thermal Power Plant

Question bits of 5 marks or 10 marks

Chapter A: Power Generation → Theoretical Question.

Chapter B: Thermal Power Plant → Numerical or Theoretical Question.

Numerical question may be asked on Rankine cycle with reheat and regeneration, steam power plants with process heating (as per mentioned in syllabus). 

Unit 2: Steam Condenser and Environmental Impacts of Thermal Power Plant

Question bits of 5 marks or 10 marks

Chapter A: Steam Condenser → Numerical or Theoretical Question.

Numerical question may be asked on condenser efficiency, vacuum efficiency, cooling water requirement, air pump capacity (as per mentioned in syllabus). 

Chapter B: Environmental Impacts of Thermal Power Plant → Theoretical Question.

Unit 3: Hydroelectric and Nuclear Power Plant

Question bits of 5 marks or 10 marks

Chapter A: Hydroelectric Power Plant → Numerical or Theoretical Question.

Numerical question may be asked on hydrograph, flow duration curve, mass curve (as per mentioned in syllabus). 

Chapter B: Nuclear Power Plant → Theoretical Question.

Unit 4: Diesel and Gas Turbine Power plant

Question bits of (10+8 or 8+10) or (8+8 or 8+8) i.e. (18 or 16 marks)

Chapter A: Diesel Power Plant → Numerical or Theoretical Question.

Numerical question may be asked on performance of diesel power plant (as per mentioned in syllabus). 

Chapter B: Gas Turbine Power plant → Numerical or Theoretical Question.

Numerical question may be asked on gas turbine power plant (as per mentioned in syllabus). 

Unit 5: Non-Conventional Power Plants

Question bits of (10+8 or 8+10) or (8+8 or 6+6+4) i.e. (18 or 16 marks)

Mostly theoretical questions are expected.

Unit 6: Instrumentation and Economics of Power Plant

Question bits of (10+8 or 8+10) or (8+8 or 10+6) i.e. (18 or 16 marks)

Chapter A: Power Plant Instruments → Theoretical Question.

Chapter B: Economics of Power Generation → Numerical or Theoretical Question.

Numerical question may be asked on cost of electric energy, fixed and operating cost, methods to determine depreciation cost and all terms related to fluctuating load plant (as per mentioned in syllabus).
